Swale Music Centre end of term success

On Wednesday 27th March Swale Music Centre held its Spring Term Concert at its rehearsal venue, Highsted Grammar School for Girls, Sittingbourne.  All 8 music centre groups performed during the evening along with our regular guest performers – the Suzuki String Group directed by Miles Attwell.

With music ranging from a Concert Band arrangement of ‘Chicken Run’ complete with kazoos through to a jazz waltz arrangement of ‘Somewhere Over The Rainbow’ by the Swale Swing Band,  the concert had a wide and varied programme to satisfy every musical taste.

The evening commenced with the Music + Club who have been experimenting with percussion ‘stomp’ and their contribution led by Matthew Jenkins was a hit with the 100 strong audience.
Both guitar groups performed arrangements of contemporary songs skilfully adapted by their director, Laurence Lock and the highlight of the evening was the combined string performances which saw some 40 string players ranging from 7 years of age to considerably older, performing a series of traditional folk tunes and shanties followed by 2 movements of a Concerto Grosso by Handel.

The Concert was arranged by the ever-supportive Friends Committee without whom Swale Music Centre Concerts would be far more difficult to organize and stage. The Summer Concert will take place on Wednesday 3rd July at Highsted Grammar School starting at 7pm.
