Romney Music Centre concert review

The Romney Marsh Music Centre Spring Concert was held on Monday, 25th March at St. Nicholas CEPS in New Romney. A packed hall of parents and friends heard the Junior Strings play a variety of traditional tunes from America, Ireland and England followed by the Woodwind Ensemble who performed a Joplin Rag, a Mr. Bean inspired version of Chariots of Fire and a ‘scary’ Phantom of the Opera. After this the Choir sang three songs by Alan Simmons and after the interval, raffle and presentation of exam certificates the Senior Strings took centre stage with a Rondeau by Purcell, a jazzy piece by Tony Osborne called Groovy Strings, a wonderful performance of Bohemian Rhapsody and finally, for all of the Trekkies, a fantastic arrangement of Star Trek (which we played again as an encore).

For our next concert, on Monday, 8th July at St. Nicholas Church in New Romney, we have a great line up of music. But it will be something of a sad occasion too, as we have to say farewell to some senior members of RMMC who started playing at the centre when they were 7 years old and are now off to University. So, we are all making the most of every moment that they will be playing with us and wish them every success in the future.
