Leading Healthy Singing in Primary Schools – CPD with the Voices Foundation

On Tuesday 23rd November our CPD session Leading Healthy Singing in Primary School took place at the Mercure Hotel in Brands Hatch.

The session was led by Jo Henwood from The Voices Foundation and organisation who do fantastic work to improve singing in schools.

The session was a resounding success, with teachers from all over the Dartford and Gravesham area joining us to learn how we can successfully care for and warm up children’s voices as well as how to use singing as vehicle to teach music in primary schools!

Jo gave practical advice and help on improving the quality of singing in primary schools and some fantastic ways to inject fun into singing for children and young people!

As so much of our CPD programme has been delivered online in recent months so it was wonderful to gather teachers together in person, and even get singing together and by the end we were singing in two-part harmony!

One teacher commented that they ‘really enjoyed the session and it was a great way to expand their repertoire’

We will be continuing to work with The Voices Foundation across this academic year and with future CPD sessions. On Monday 17th January we will be hosting ‘Singing in Secondary Schools’ online with The Voices Foundation, and in March we have two sessions including ‘Leading a Choir in Primary School’ taking place in Canterbury and ‘Singing with SEND Pupils’ in Maidstone where we’ll welcome Jo back to help us again!

Kent Music are proud to continue to be able to provide these twilight training opportunities across Kent for free for all teachers in Kent Schools. If you would like to join us, please do visit our website and register. We look forward to seeing you soon!
