With the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, the 100th anniversary of the premiere of Holst’s The Planets and Earth Day in 2018/2019, it is a great time to explore the topic of space. Holst didn’t write a movement for Earth and so the BBC Earth Mission asked all budding Ten Pieces musicians to create a piece of music about the Earth as though they are looking down on it from space.
This piece is completely devised by members of Dartford Orchestra for Young People – each came up with a short movement that they felt captured the sounds and styles of a continent. https://www.bbc.com/teach/ten-pieces/earth-mission/zdc7382
