Have Your Say: Help Shape the Future of Music in Kent and Medway

We believe that music education should be shaped with young people – not just for them. That’s why we’re inviting you to take part in our Youth Voice Survey – a short but powerful way to influence how music happens across Kent and Medway.

Whether you’re just starting your musical journey or already deep into rehearsals, recording or writing your own music, your voice matters. This is your chance to tell us what music means to you, what opportunities you’d like to see more of, and how we can better support you to grow and thrive through music.

This isn’t just a tick-box exercise. It’s a genuine part of how we’re working to make the new Kent & Medway Music Hub more inclusive, responsive and accessible. We want to build an organisation that reflects the voices, interests and needs of young musicians across the area.

What is the Youth Voice Survey?

You can take the survey by clicking the link below or scanning the QR codes at your local Music Centre. If you’re already registered with Kent Music, you’ll also receive an email with the link.

It’s a short online survey that takes around five minutes to complete. There are 17 questions, and there are no wrong answers. We want to hear what you genuinely think and feel – whether you attend Kent Music groups already or not.

Your responses will help us shape how we work, what we offer, and how we support young people across the region.

Deadline: 19 May 2025

The survey is open to all Kent Music students – whether you have lessons with us, play in a Music Centre group, or take part in our courses – aged 21 or under. If you’re under 13, we suggest filling it in with a parent or carer, just in case you have questions. And if you need the survey in a different format or want help completing it, we’re happy to support – just get in touch.

What’s In It for You?

By taking part, you’ll be making sure your voice is heard in the early stages of an exciting new chapter for music education in our region.

You’ll be helping us make music more accessible, more diverse, and more meaningful for more young people, making youth voice a core part of what we do.

You’ll also get the chance to:

  • Highlight your musical interests
  • Suggest new groups or styles you’d like to see
  • Tell us how we can do better
  • Express interest in joining a youth voice panel, consultation group or even becoming a young trustee

Even if you don’t want to take on a bigger role right now, completing the survey helps us understand what support you need and what changes would make a difference.

What We’ll Do With Your Feedback

Once the survey closes on 19th May 2025, we’ll be reviewing the responses carefully and using what we learn to guide the development of our programmes, courses and opportunities. Your answers will inform real decisions across the organisation – from the music we play to how we support young people into music careers.

This survey is the first step in creating a more open, collaborative and youth-led approach to music education, and we’re excited to hear from you!

So, are you in?

If you love music and want to have a say in how it’s taught, supported and celebrated in Kent and Medway, now’s your chance.

It only takes a few minutes – but it could have a lasting impact.
