We’re always looking for new members! If you’re interested in joining, please register using the button below. Auditions take place at set times throughout the year, and you may also be invited to join an upcoming course as part of your audition.
Courses and concerts
We offer a mix of residential courses and workshop days three times a year during the winter, spring, and summer holiday periods. These courses provide an invaluable setting for focused vocal rehearsal and study, as well as a creative social environment where singers can meet like-minded people and participate in peer-directed musical activities.

What repertoire does the Kent Youth Choir study and perform?
The Kent Youth Choir studies and performs music from a wide variety of periods and genres, ranging from J.S. Bach to Fauré, to Rodgers and Hammerstein. Singers will have the opportunity to gain an understanding of choral repertoire, experience different musical cultures, sing in different languages, and sing in up to sixteen-part harmony.
What is the standard required for joining the Kent Youth Choir?
The Kent Youth Choir caters for a wide range of singers, from those with a good sense of pitch and rhythm and some experience in singing in harmony to advanced students with previous choral experience and sight-singing skills. Members are selected further to an informal audition whilst singing with the choir in a session or via an audition with the Choir Manager.
What opportunities are available for members after joining the Kent Youth Choir?
Many of our members have gone on to study music at college and university, and some have enjoyed success as solo performers. Most have followed careers in areas other than music but continue to enjoy music-making as an important leisure activity. Under the guidance of leading choral conductors and vocal specialists, members are coached in developing their vocal skills and improving their overall musicianship.
Who leads the Kent Youth Choir?
The Kent Youth Choir is currently led by conductor Ciara Considine, who works alongside vocal coaches and an accompanist to provide comprehensive musical training and support.
Do I need prior choral experience to join the KYC?
While prior choral experience is beneficial, it is not mandatory. We look for strong vocal ability and a commitment to rehearsals and performances.
Who conducts the KYC auditions?
The KYC informal auditions include being invited along to sing with the choir which is led by an experienced choral director who specialises in vocal performance and education. Other options are available to audition for the choir so please register your interest so different options can be discussed directly with you.
