The Power of Music to Change Lives
We lead one of 43 Music Hubs funded by Arts Council England and are responsible for supporting and delivering high quality musical opportunities for children and young people across Kent & Medway.
In June 2022 Arts Council England released The power of music to change lives: A National Plan for Music Education providing hubs with updated vision for music, aims and strategic functions.
Aims for Music Hubs
Working in partnership with schools, local authorities, community groups and creative organisations Music Hubs aim to:
We will achieve this by…
To achieve these aims, Hub Lead Organisations, which receive and are accountable for government’s funding, will deliver these aims through five strategic functions:
Opportunities for everyone
We work closely with schools as well as other partners across Kent & Medway and national organisations to give children and young people the opportunity to sing, learn to play musical instruments and progress with their music making.
This is done through the development and funding of in-school programmes, county-wide programmes and projects at a local and regional level. We strive to support educators to upskill through our annual CPD programme, ensuring we provide support to all those providing access to music making.

The Kent & Medway Music Hub
The National Plan for Music Education sparked a review of the geographical areas each Hub covered.
After national consultation, the decision was made to reduce the amount of Music Hubs from 118 to 43. In our area, this has meant that the formerly separate Music Hubs for the Kent and Medway areas have been combined. Find out more about the process on the ACE website.
In May 2024, it was announced that Kent Music was successful in our bid and has been chosen as the lead organisation for the Kent & Medway Music Hub, starting in September 2024.
