I’ve taught brass in Kent since 1978, and have worked in over 40 schools as well as in Kent Music Centres in Medway, Mid, West and Northwest Kent.
My Bachelor of Music (with Distinction) in Trombone Performance & Pedagogy was earned at Canada’s University of Victoria, and I became a Licentiate of the Guildhall School of Music - Trombone Teaching in 1982. In 1983 the ‘Certificate in Education - Music’ was awarded by the University of Kent.
Many beginners have started with me - from primary school students to adult beginners and ‘returners’, and a number of advanced pupils have gone on to conservatoires/’junior colleges’ in London and further afield - a good few now play professionally.
Teaching is my vocation - typified by expertise, experience, effectiveness and enthusiasm. One focuses on establishing correct technique from the outset and ensuring students become good readers. Encouraging all students to join appropriate ensembles as soon as possible is a major goal.
But above all, the student’s approach is key - regular daily practice will ensure players fully achieve their musical potential.
