What is MusicPlus Digital?
MusicPlus Digital is Kent Music’s digital whole class ukulele course designed for keystage 2 children. The programme was designed in collaboration with some of the UK’s leading musicians, composers and educationalists to allow more children to get first access to instrumental tuition.
MusicPlus Digital (MPD) can be used with a specialist music teacher or as a standalone resource. Lessons are designed to be 45 minutes in length and to be delivered over 30 weeks. MPD is designed for KS2 children of year 4 upwards.
MusicPlus Digital is designed to meet the outcomes and aims of our MusicPlus framework and provide students with an opportunity to learn a musical instrument in a whole class setting, it is not designed as a curriculum resource.
How will this help your pupils?
The resource is planned to provide pupils with the opportunity to develop their musicianship skills and a love of learning music through learning the ukulele. Pupils will come away being able to play the ukulele with good technique, learning to strum chords, fingerpick single note melodies and sing a variety of pieces. The resources is designed to offer pupils the opportunity to experience a breadth of musical genres as well as activities that develop a variety of musicianship skills.
MusicPlus Digital is full of fun characters to help pupils learn fundamentals of pitch and rhythm all delivered through an interactive teacher, Jake! Pupils will have opportunities to sing original songs every lesson including the Bug Gang Song!
FAQs
Do we have to hire ukuleles to access MusicPlus Digital?
If the school already have access to ukuleles you will be able to use your own instruments. If a school does not have ukuleles of their own they can hire them through our Music resources department.
Do we need to have a music teacher to deliver MusicPlus Digital?
The resource is designed to have a teacher in the classroom; however, all concepts and learning is delivered by the interactive teacher, Jake. The classroom teacher would need to assess the progress of all learners and ensure students were keeping up with content. A non-specialist would be able to follow along and support the class and we can deliver the first lesson to get things started!
Can we use MusicPlus Digital for our year 5 pupils?
The content has been designed to support KS2 learners, and mostly geared towards year 4! However, it can work just as well for any KS2 learners as long as they are new learners to the ukulele
Can we use this as our curriculum resource?
The resource is designed to provide a breadth of learning opportunities for KS2, and specifically designed to support the delivery of whole class instrumental tuition rather than curriculum aims. We advise teachers plan carefully to ensure all national curriculum aims are met if not delivering separate curriculum and WCIT lessons.
